Diving Nananu-i-ra and Beqa Lagoon in Fiji

11 excited divers accompanied by 3 non-divers headed of to Fiji with Dive HQ Hibiscus Coast for 9 days diving and relaxation. It was great to be back at Safari Lodge and reunite with the friendly staff that looked after us so well during our last trip in August 2012.

This time around we had 6 rebreather divers and we were well catered for with plenty of Oxygen and a fresh shipment of sofnolime. We even had our own private rebreather grotto set up with benches, shelving and booster pump to look after and maintain our equipment between dives ! Congratulations to Gunther, Nick and Riaan on completing your Poseidon MkVI rebreather course during the trip.

All the divers had pre-booked a 10 dive package, but the diving was so great everyone tacked on additional dives, making up to 3 dives/day. The diving highlights were our trips out to Vatu-i-ra Passage oboard the “Wild Cat” – a recently launched catamaran dive boat. At Vatu-i-ra we encountered sharks, turtles, large schools of fish and amazing reefs covered in colourful soft corals and fans.

On our last day of diving we transferred around the Island to Beqa Lagoon to dive with Aquatrek on their famous shark feeding encounters. We saw huge Bull Sharks, Tawny Nurse, Grey Reef, White Tip and Silver Tip Sharks. It was very safe and well controlled, but very exciting and a real adrenaline rush to finish our trip.

A big thanks again to all the team at Safari Lodge for another fantastic trip. We’re already looking forward to returning on our next trip in August 2013.
